The curse of carpet stains

It is a beautiful new cream carpet and you have friends round for the evening. Accidently, a large glass of red white is spilt by one of your friends (who happens to be the most drunk one out of your friends and who is more of an acquaintance than a friend and was never meant to be on the guest list in the first place)!

It has happened to all of us at some point. The dreaded red wine spill when everyone starts rushing around in a blind panic shouting,  “get the bleach” or “bring the salt – no not rock salt, table salt”!

No need to fear this scenario again because below we have detailed the top tips for stain removal in a crisis. Here’s how to get every stain out of your carpet from bleach to chocolate and red wine.

Red Wine and Black Coffee

These two culprits are generally considered to be the most harmful of stains to any carpet or rug because of their density of colour. You need to act quickly and catch the stains before they dry. Therefore whilst the stain is still wet, pour soda water (and if this is not possible, plain water) over the stain and blot with a clean cloth or kitchen paper. Do this several times until you see the colour of the stain lift. Once most of the colour has gone, repeat the water again and this time place kitchen paper over the stain and then place a very heavy book on top to heavily blot the area. Leave for a couple of hours. This will draw the moisture out and hopefully the last of the stain. Once this stage has completed, remove the kitchen paper and brush the pile with the edge of a spoon or a small hard bristled brush.

Ink

As ink is intended to be permanent, removing this type of stain can be tricky. The key to success is to blot the area with a clean white cloth soaked in rubbing alcohol (the kind you would find in a first aid kit). Do not rub the stain, as the alcohol will make the stain spread. Blot as heavily as you can until the stain has gone. Make sure you do a test patch first as different colours react in a different way to the alcohol.

Dirt, Mud, Grime

This type of stain is probably the easiest to remove. Allow the stain to dry thoroughly before removing the stain. If you attempt to remove the stain while still wet, it will further deepen into your carpet pile. Once dry simply vacuum the stain and brush any difficult areas.

Of course, if you have tried the above and there is still a stain, we will of course come and help. We can successfully remove most stains and have your carpet looking brand new in no time. Please call us for a quote and we will be happy to book you in when its convenient for you.

What a difference

Thank you so much for making such a difference to my oven and carpets.

The oven looks as though it has just been installed, is shining and gleaming and even the fan is whizzing around again. The carpets have come up really well, look so much cleaner and feel fresh and clean underfoot.

David worked solidly all day and kept us informed about what was happening. Importantly for us, his approach was both professional and friendly and we felt very comfortable having him in the house.

I have no hesitation in recommending his services.
